Anaheim Street Rehabilitation Restoration

  • Client Port of Long Beach

Long Beach, CA

This portion of West Anaheim Street serves as a gateway and critical link for the Port of Long Beach to the I-710 corridor and a vital arterial for businesses and the surrounding community. Minimizing construction phase impacts to Port operations, public transit, local businesses and the surrounding community were critical to the project’s success. The project is located on Anaheim Street between 9th Street and the Los Angeles River Bridge, approximately 4,350 feet in length, in the Long Beach Harbor District.

The Anaheim Street Rehabilitation/Restoration project comprised a series of studies, including funding alternatives to develop a design theme and final construction documents.

LCI prepared visual simulations and exhibits to develop the proposed streetscape improvements and participated in community outreach meetings. The plant palette deviates from the POLB master plan documents, and includes California-friendly materials. Sustainability was a key design concern. Solutions include on site drainage solutions, reduced/minimized water use, and maintenance.

This project was awarded “2014 Best Project” by APWA and “2014 Local Street Project of the Year” by California Transportation Foundation.
