Saturday, November 11, 2017, LCI took part in the ribbon cutting of Vanguard University’s Dean Harvey Field. Dean Harvey was a former alumnus of Vanguard University and a baseball player for the Lions. He played second base and helped lead the Lions in making the 1985 NAIA World Series. The field is an honor to his legacy and the impact he made not only on his teammates, but also on current university players.
LCI was the project Prime Consultant, leading a team of civil, structural, electrical, and architecture for the renovation of Vanguard University’s existing baseball field into the new Dean Harvey Field. Vanguard University is a supporter of the NAIA Champions of Character Initiative and their mission was to build a reinvigorated field that matches the all-star quality of the players and coaches playing on it. The existing field was uneven with patches of dead grass. Phase 1 included pro-style turf, upgraded irrigation, drainage improvements, new dugouts, locker room, netting system, bull pen, and fan viewing area. It was an integrated design process from kickoff to ribbon cutting for the design team working directly with Vanguard University, Coach Pegg, Trestle Companies, Consolidated Contracting, and City of Costa Mesa in meeting critical deadlines on an expedited schedule. Midway through phase 1, LCI was asked to prepare 3d renderings of the field with upgraded amenities for an additional donation campaign by Vanguard. As phase 1 was ending, the design team received word that additional donations were attained and that phase 2 (new scoreboard and entry gateway) would proceed. The professional grade improvements will give the Vanguard Lions an edge in recruiting and the opportunity to host regional tournaments.
