Musick Jail Facility 20230424 – YouTube

Progress continues at the new James A. Musick Detention Center in Irvine, CA. This 1,250-bed facility will house both male and female inmates and will also include direct supervision housing facility and contemporary medical and programming facilities. The project is scheduled to open this summer. Click the link above for a recent aerial video of the projects current state.

Included in the construction of this facility is a staff outdoor area which is separated from the entry plaza. Specimen canopy trees, tall shrubs, and drought tolerant planting will provide adequate shade for staff members and privacy from the public entrance plaza. One interesting aspect from this design are the orange trees that will be planted along Musick Loop Road, leading up to the entrance road for the facility. Eventually, inmates on good behavior will be given the chance to pick and harvest the fruit.
