Pacific Coast Highway Median Improvements

Dana Point, CA

This project is located on Pacific Coast Highway in the City of Dana Point, located at the intersection of Crown Valley Parkway, extending southeast to the Niguel Shores Drive overcrossing. The project sits adjacent to the Ritz Carlton-Dana Point, a 5-star destination resort.

LCI designed the landscape improvements; coordinated the assembly of plans, specifications, and estimates; and performed construction administration services, including observation of the material installation and performance of testing procedures. The medians included installation of enhanced cobble paving with maintenance access walks, a low-volume irrigation delivery system with solar-powered automatic irrigation controller, and a drought-tolerant planting design.

The primary planting components included the installation of 28 majestic Date Palms (Phoenix dactylifera) installed at 20’ on-center spacing and located longitudinally along the median. The ground plane planting includes a variety of drought-tolerant woody and herbaceous perennial shrubs and succulents that provide a profusion of seasonal color during the spring and summer months, coinciding with the primary travel months for visitors to the resort.
